You can't image a machine in use to use as your golden image to deploy to other machines?? You need to start with a fresh build. OEM and VL cannot be moved to another machine once they are in use.
Yes, that's fine. You just can't have a User actually use the machine and Activate it. It can only be used by an admin, and Windows Activation cannot be done. Install Windows from your VL media, install updates, install applications, save image in case sysprep blows up. Sysprep, then save as Master Image. I swear, sometimes it seems like Microsoft has deliberately complicated licensing to create an environment so precarious that organizations are forced to buy and re-buy more and different classifications of licenses just to remain in compliance. Because this level of incoherence must be by design. Well, it can certainly be confusing. In this case the rules are pretty straight forward. But, if you didn't know that, well With machines, I'm building new machines maybe twice a week, and it takes me a few hours per machine all things considered.
I don't know if that's worth what it would cost us to cover the network with SmartDeploy licenses. What is that?
